There are obstacles in life that can’t be changed.  If you’re paraplegic, that’s and obstacle we haven’t figured out how to move yet.  There are a lot of tools that you can use to help you do more things and be less restricted, but the fact is that you won’t be running marathons and no amount of positive thinking will make it so.  Miracles not withstanding.  However there are a lot of obstacles that can be moved because they are mostly self-inflicted.

A friend of mine pointed out that I do fun things all the time and they don’t.  Which always makes me smile because I don’t think of myself as doing fun things, I just set out to do things I like to do.  Fun being in the eye of the beholder and all I never assume that anyone else will think of them as fun.  I goto belly dance performances, I’m admittedly a Whedonite and specifically a BrownCoat and so I goto every annual “Can’t Stop the Serenity” event in my local area, this year in costume, goto see Broadway plays, enjoy pub grub at the variety of great pubs in our area, and once in a while I hob nob with my friends who are wine connoisseurs.  For no other reason than I like to do all those things and I refuse to let there be obstacles to doing it other than my amazingly busy schedule.  When they all happen at the same time I…gasp…have to choose just one.  Ok maybe two.  Call me crazy.  Crazy busy, that is.

So my friend points out to me that the things she likes to do, hunting and fishing and wilderness camping, she can no longer do for physical reasons.  So there’s nothing fun to do and her life is boring.  And it just boggles my mind.  The things you can dream up are only limited by your own heart and mind.  If you can’t do one thing, find another way to do it.  Can’t fish on your own, find others that are fishing and tag along.  The  physical limitations lesson when there are others to help out.  Can’t camp in the wilderness because hiking and carrying a pack is too difficult, get a truck and a pop up.  You won’t get as far into the wilderness, but you’d be surprised how few people actually off-road with their four-wheel drive vehicles.  Can’t go hunting, teach hunting to kids who need to understand gun safety, appropriate uses for guns, woodcraft and who need to hear the stories of experienced hunters.  Or find something new that you enjoy that is related.  You have no idea how many millions of things are connected to and interrelated with all of those activities.  The only thing stopping you is you.  Let go of the limitations and see where the path takes you.
